Rebuild Update – November

Despite everyone’s best efforts, it is clear that the Clubhouse will not be completed before Christmas. While we are naturally disappointed that we will be without a Clubhouse for a second summer, we have no doubt our members will rise to the challenge of operating as we did last season in the shadows of what is shaping up to be a wonderful building.

The main reasons for the delays relate to the complexities of building on a sand dune. Inevitably, there have been a few surprises, just as there have been some tasks that have simply taken the building team longer than they anticipated.

However, as evidenced by the images, the Clubhouse is taking shape and promises to be an amazing asset for the Club, its members and the local community. It will provide generational change for the Portsea SLSC and will be well worth the wait. At this stage we are hoping to celebrate completion late Q1/early Q2 in 2019, although as I am sure you will understand, there’s still plenty to be done and this may still change. We will keep you all posted on how it is progressing and provide more detail when it is available. Given the anticipation, it will certainly be a big event!

Equipment Room

The Operations Committee is well underway with planning for the season ahead, and we will again show how well we can operate from portable facilities. Socially, get ready to again explore some of the other great venues in and around Portsea and Sorrento.

Back on the site we can expect to see plenty of action over the coming weeks. The foundations for the control room are now established, and the slab for the floor of this structure will be poured in the next week. The roof steel and windows will arrive on site next week, and will be installed over the coming weeks. It won’t be long before the exterior cladding is starting to go on, and we will all start to see what the finished product will look like. Our builder has committed to getting back on the site in January so that we can keep this moving along, and we are in discussions with Parks Victoria about how we can do this without inconveniencing too greatly the many visitors to the beach. More on this over the next month.

We will keep the updates flowing and look forward to sharing more with you as we move towards lock up.
