Back@The Back Beach, Vol. 5
December 22, 2021COVID-19 Update, 2nd Jan 2022
January 2, 2022The Portsea Boat Rowers are on the ‘Recruitment Hunt’. Led by our Open Women’s Portsea Cruisers boat crew, there will be a week of rowing training camp at the club following patrol on Sunday 2nd Jan. The Women’s Crew have booked the bunkrooms and will be living on site at the club for the duration of the program.
They anticipate doing their early morning training sessions each day, then from 10am, it’s an open invite to any club member, male or female who might be interested in having a row. In addition, every crew needs a sweep and if sweeping takes your fancy, again, come along and speak to Portsea’s Stephen Blewett, one of the most experienced boat sweeps in the country.
Proposed schedule:
Monday 3rd 7.30 – 9.30 boat session 10am – 12 anyone wanting to have a row
Tuesday 4th 7.30 – 9.30 boat session 10am – 12 anyone wanting to have a row
Wednesday 5th 7.30 – 9.30 boat session 10am – 12 anyone wanting to have a row
Thursday 6th 7.30 – 9.30 boat session 10am – 12 anyone wanting to have a row
Friday 7th 7.30 – 9.30 boat session 10am – 12 anyone wanting to have a row
Depending on conditions, training will ideally be off the beach at the club, or somewhere close by, determined each morning.
The schedule is flexible as the rowers are staying at the club, and if afternoon conditions might be better, we can switch things up.
In the interest of team building for our competitors, we will also look at holding board/ski/swim sessions in conjunction with the rowers.
Social evening catch ups, BBQ’s, film nights of old Uncle Toby’s footage will also be part of the week long package.
Our Rowing Captain Amanda Rukuwai can be reached on 0488 344 264 or by email on rukuwai79@gmail.com if you have any questions, thoughts, suggestions, or want to register your interest in rowing for Portsea.
