PORTSEA’S SUMMER COMPETITION TEAM

The competition team goes beyond racing; it fosters pride within the club and among participants.
Our summer team includes juniors from under 8 to masters, training together and competing in various events, which helps build skills in open-water swimming, paddling, rowing, wading, surfing, and beach running. This growth boosts confidence for patrolling and enjoying ocean activities.

We offer involvement in patrol, first aid, and champion lifesaver competitions, and host adaptive carnivals for members with special needs.

Recently, six athletes travelled to California with the Victorian Wieland Shield team, creating lasting memories with LA lifeguards. Our athletes excel in state, national, and international competitions across swimming, rowing, kayaking, and triathlon.

Participation enhances lifesaving skills and connections. Many lifeguards and patrol leaders have backgrounds in surf sports, creating bonds that unite members across ages.

Parents often engage with the competition team and take on support roles, fostering camaraderie and increasing participation in patrolling and leadership within the club.

IRB COMPETITION TEAM
Portsea’s Inflatable Rescue Boat Racing Team has seen significant rejuvenation and growth in recent seasons.

Re-established in 2021, this close-knit crew has dedicated itself to rigorous training and actively participates in state, national, and international competitions.

This renewed focus on IRB racing not only enhances critical water safety skills essential for lifesaving at the back beach but also contributes to the club’s overall competitive success.

The team’s commitment during the cold winter months underscores the club’s goal of developing skilled and resilient lifesavers, prepared for high-pressure rescues, while continuing Portsea SLSC’s tradition of excellence at our notoriously dangerous beach.
