The Portsea Junior Competition Team is open to Nippers of all abilities in the Under 8 age group, through to Under 13. It’s all about participation, improving your skills and having fun at the same time – it’s as competitive as you want to make it. You’ll be part of an exciting, high energy team environment where you can build lifelong friendship within the club.

The team competes in junior carnivals against other surf lifesaving clubs over summer, culminating with the State Championships in March. You can compete at as many carnivals and events as you like – the choice is yours!

Marni Jacka will lead the coaching line-up for the Junior Competition team, with foundation coaches Steph Hunter, Tom Regan and Chloe Dowling training the team throughout summer.

The coaching team will provide valuable guidance for Portsea SLSC’s young athletes, focusing on skill development, team bonding and race tactics.

Training sessions will take place at Quarantine Station on the following days:

Registration is $50 for the season (payable through the Portsea Junior Comp Team App). This fee covers all carnival entry fees, a Competition Team t-shirt and training sessions during December and January.

There is also a $50 board levy this season, which covers the use of a board for the season. A board will be allocated for you to take home. For those wishing to continue training with the Portsea Junior Comp Team after the Nipper program in February and March leading into State Championships, there may be a small user-pays coaching levy.

Activities like this cannot run without the support of others and this season it is a requirement that a parent, guardian or sibling of each team member gets involved to help share the load.

Portsea SLSC must provide support for surf carnivals and this year it’s a condition that parents or guardians volunteer as officials, age managers and/or assist with water safety.

There will be a roster system in place, so you will not be required to officiate at every carnival or training session. Your involvement guarantees that Portsea SLSC athletes may continue to participate. Additionally, you’ll have the best seat in the house at the centre of the action on the beach!

To qualify you will need to complete the Technical Officials training course online through Life Saving Victoria. To get started, the Technical Officials training course can be found by clicking on the button below.

The cost of the Technical Officials training course is $50.

Alternatively, please advise if you currently hold an LSV bronze medallion.

We ask that this training please be completed by mid December.
