OVERVIEW OF THE BAY TO SURF

BAY TO SURF - FRIDAY 20TH JANUARY 2023

The Bay to Surf is an adventure run commencing at Jarman Oval in Point Nepean National Park and finishing at Portsea SLSC. The Portsea Bay to Surf consists of three separate events.

The Portsea Bay to Surf is designed to be an all-terrain event. The run and walk will require competitors to run along multiple different surfaces including, road, track, and sand. We want to provide all competitors with an exhilarating experience, breathe taking views, and a memorable finish, surrounded by friends and family!

9km run* Competitors will start at Jarman oval and head towards Fort Nepean before joining Coles track and heading back to Quarantine Station then along Ochiltree road and Defence road, moving onto Wilson’s Folly Track then London Bridge road, to bring it home along the beach and finish at Portsea SLSC. Open (18 years old and over)

Junior (under 18 years old)

4.5km run* Competitors will start at Jarman oval and run along Ochiltree road and Defence road, moving onto Wilson’s Folly Track then London Bridge road, to bring it home along the beach and finish at Portsea SLSC. Open (18 years old and over)

Junior (under 18 years old)

4.5km walk* Competitors will start at Jarman oval and run along Ochiltree road and Defence road, moving onto Wilson’s Folly Track then London Bridge road and finally progress along Portsea Back Beach to finish at Portsea SLSC.

Unfortunately, this terrain is not pram/stroller friendly and therefore will not be permitted on the course.

TIMING

Each competitor will be issued with a bib, which will contain a tracker, to wear. Each competitor can keep their bib post-run.

Race Commences:

  • 5:00pm – 4.5km walk commences
  • 6:00pm – 4.5km run commences
  • 6:15pm – 9km run commences

Race Bib Collection:

All competitors will be sent an individual code that they must bring with them, either on their phone or printed out. Competitors will scan their individual code when they approach the registration tent. Competitors will then receive their race bib at Jarman Oval on the 20th January 2023.

AWARDS

Awards will be awarded to competitors at Portsea SLSC after all races have concluded.

There will be the six under 18 placegetters being first, second and third female and male across the line in both the 4.5km and 9km run.

There will be the six over 18 placegetters being first, second and third female and male across the line in both the 4.5km and 9km run.

Where there is a close decision for places the placegetter will be determined by the line officials and is based on the competitor whose torso crosses the finish line first. It will not only be reliant on the time recorded.

Protests must be made in writing and given to the Race Director within fifteen minutes of the announcement of the provisional results. All decisions of the Race Director are final.

RACE REWARDS

Each competitor will receive a souvenir of a Portsea Bay to Surf run t-shirt and other products from our generous sponsors.

CAR PARKING

Car parking will be available on Jarman Oval near the event starting area. A parking fee of $5 (CASH ONLY) is required which will be donated to support local emergency services organisations. All competitors will be directed to the Registration Tent on arrival.

Buses will be running between Jarman Oval and the Portsea SLSC clubhouse to ferry competitors and spectators to and from their vehicles. The first bus will depart Jarman Oval at 4:45pm and the last bus will depart Portsea SLSC at 9:00pm.

POST RUN CELEBRATIONS

Post-event our competitors will enjoy live music, food trucks and drinks at Portsea SLSC. The atmosphere at the finish line will be incredible and we cannot wait to celebrate a fantastic evening of fitness and competition with you!
