SUPPORT THE PSLSC PRIMARY SCHOOL BEACH EDUCATION PROGRAM
Your contribution directly supports the PSLSC Primary School Beach Education Program, a vital initiative for primary students across the Peninsula. As an accredited partner of Life Saving Victoria, Portsea SLSC is authorised to deliver these life-saving programs, giving young students essential skills for understanding and navigating open water safely.
This engaging four-hour program combines skill-building with fun, interactive games to keep students excited and involved. It’s led by enthusiastic lifesavers selected for their knowledge, energy, and ability to connect with young students. The main barrier schools face is funding, with each session costing around $50 per student, not including transportation costs, which often strain school budgets.
WHY YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS
Every year, there is a near certainty of drowning on the Peninsula, with a 96% likelihood that the person involved will be a local. Warning signs alone are not enough, and standard swimming lessons don’t fully prepare children for the unique challenges of open water. Education is the key to reducing these risks.
Through the program, children gain essential skills, including:
- Recognising potential dangers in open water
- Staying safe if a boat capsizes
- Using a boogie board correctly
- Performing rescues with everyday items
- Identifying when someone needs CPR
Thank you for supporting this invaluable program and helping us keep our community safe!
