The Part-Time Bronze Medallion Course (PTB) is a comprehensive training program designed to equip participants with essential surf lifesaving skills, knowledge, and qualifications. This course is specifically tailored for individuals over the age of 15 years – such as Nipper Parents, Older Teenagers, Adults discovering surf lifesaving & Patrollers returning from an ‘extended break’ – and have limited availability to complete training due to work, study, or other commitments, allowing them to complete the training over an extended period.
The content is exactly the same as our Portsea SLSC Bronze Camp, and PTB participants will learn how to:
- Understand Surf Awareness Principles and Apply these to the Beach Environment
- Utilise Surf Skills to Effectively Negotiate Surf
- Perform Basic Surf Rescues using a variety of Techniques and Equipment
- Participate in Patrol Operations, including in Emergency Situations
- Provide Basic Emergency Care and Life Support to unconscious, unresponsive patients (with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and aided by an automated external defibrillator (AED))
- Provide Basic First Aid Principles to Patients
- Utilise SLSA Approved Radios and Other SLSA Communication Methods
- Apply Spinal Management Techniques to Patients with Spinal Injuries
- Work as Part of a Lifesaving Team
PART-TIME BRONZE PROGRAM DATES
The 2026 Part-Time Bronze Program dates are below:
- 14th November 2026 – St Kilda LSC (9am-5pm)
- 21st November 2026 – Portsea SLSC (9am-5pm)
- 5th December 2026 – Patrol Day Portsea SLSC (9am-2pm) (This date is negotiable with prior approval)
There will also be a “work from home” day scheduled for candidates to complete the online learning modules.
REGISTRATION DATES & PROCESSES
All registration links for Part Time Bronze will be posted to members via E-Boomer and can also be accessed on the main Part-Time Bronze page. If PTB becomes oversubscribed, applicants will be added to the waitlist and contacted if a place becomes available.
Part Time Bronze Registration Opens:
Tuesday 8th of September 2026 at 12pm AEST

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY
All candidates must satisfy the following eligibility criteria to participate in Bronze Camp:
- Be a current financial member of Portsea SLSC
- Be 16+ years of age as of the 1st of November 2026
- Be able to swim 400m in under 9 minutes in a pool of no less than 25 metres. (An open water fitness test will be completed on the practical day in lieu of a pre-course accreditation swim.)
- Complete all E-Learning Modules prior to the day of final assessment.
PART-TIME BRONZE PROGRAM FEES
The cost for Part Time Bronze is $150 per candidate.
