CADETS FULL OVERVIEW

CADET CAMP PROGRAM OUTLINE

Cadets will participate in a combination of practical skills and engage with theory to improve their surf awareness. Candidates will requalify their SRC as well as develop board skills, improve their fitness, and develop further rescue-based skills. There will be an emphasis on teamwork and scenario-based problems for all candidates to work through.

Overall, the Cadet program equips young patrollers with valuable surf lifesaving knowledge and skills, fostering a sense of responsibility and service to the community as they actively contribute to maintaining safer beach environments. Similar to SRC Camp, participants will refresh and work on:

  • Requalifying participants’ Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC)
  • Honing Board skills
  • Improving Lifesaving Fitness Levels
  • Refining Rescue skills
  • Engaging with Scenarios
  • Gaining Confidence with Communications Equipment

PROGRAM DATES

The 2024-25 Cadet Camp Program dates are:

  • 27th December 2024
  • 28th December 2024
  • 29th December 2024

Sessions will be run at Quarantine Station & Portsea Back Beach. SRC candidates will be informed about session locations closer to the start date of the SRC program.

Cadet Camp Registration Opens:
Sunday 13th of October 2024 at 12pm AEST

Registration / Waitlist will CLOSE on:
Thursday 31st October 2024 at 12pm AEST

CAMP ELIGIBILTY

All candidates must satisfy the following eligibility criteria to participate in the Cadet program:

  • Be a current financial member of Portsea SLSC
  • Be 14 years of age by the 13th of December 2023
  • Completed Portsea SRC Camp in 2022 (the previous season)
  • Hold a proficient Surf Rescue Certificate (recorded in the SLSA / LSV database)
  • Complete all E-Learning Modules prior to the commencement of camp.

As Cadets reinforces and builds on the material learnt on SRC, Portsea SLSC will not be offering a full SRC course on Cadets for those who do not have their SRC.

BRONZE TICKET

The Bronze Ticket is Portsea SLSC’s priority entry onto Bronze Camp. If you intend to complete Bronze Camp in the following season, please familiarise yourself with the requirements of obtaining a Bronze Ticket here. If you have any questions regarding the Bronze Ticket process, please email the Education Subcommittee at education@portseasurf.com.au.

CADET PROGRAM FEES

The cost for Cadet Camp is $200 per candidate.

Financial assistance may be available for families suffering personal / financial hardship. If you would like to discuss options regarding financial assistance, please contact the Education Director directly.
