BRONZE FULL OVERVIEW

The Portsea SLSC Bronze camp enables candidates to develop surf lifesaving skills and allows participants to attain their Bronze Medallion, enabling them to patrol as part of Portsea SLSC as a fully qualified lifesaver. The Bronze Medallion is the national qualification in basic surf lifesaving skills and is the core qualification for patrolling members of surf lifesaving clubs in Australia.

On Bronze, there will be a combination of practical work, fitness training and theory activities that all candidates will be expected to fulfil as part of the camp. In turn, the program will provide candidates with crucial lifesaving techniques and knowledge including surf awareness skills, surf rescue skills, patrol operation awareness and emergency care & resuscitation skills.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Understand Surf Awareness Principles and Apply these to the Beach Environment
  • Utilise Surf Skills to Effectively Negotiate Surf
  • Perform Basic Surf Rescues using a variety of Techniques and Equipment
