Portsea Medics to AUS Team Docs
October 6, 2026Dear Members, Volunteers and Staff,
As we prepare for the upcoming 2026/27 lifesaving season, we would like to advise all members of important changes to Working with Children Check (WWCC) requirements effective 19 October 2026.
In line with strengthened child safety requirements across Victoria and the surf lifesaving community, Portsea Surf Life Saving Club is reinforcing its Working with Children Check obligations to ensure we continue to provide a safe and supportive environment for all children and young people involved in our Club.
Who is required to have a Working with Children Check?
Portsea SLSC currently requires members aged 18 years and over to hold a valid Working with Children Check, unless an applicable exemption has been confirmed by the Club. This includes the following categories:
- Active Members: All active lifesaving members aged 18 and over, including patrolling members.
- Nipper Age Managers: All Age Managers involved in delivering or supporting the Nippers program.
- Nipper Parents and Helpers: Parents and guardians aged 18 and over who assist with Nippers activities, water safety or other volunteer duties.
- Volunteers: All volunteers aged 18 and over involved in Club activities, events and programs.
- Employees: All Portsea SLSC staff aged 18 and over, including administration, hospitality, operations and other employed roles.
What do you need to do?
If you already hold a valid Working with Children Check, please ensure your details are current and that Portsea Surf Life Saving Club is listed as an organisation with which you are associated.
If you do not currently hold a Working with Children Check, you will need to apply before commencing your relevant Club duties for the upcoming season.
You can apply for or update your Working with Children Check through the Victorian Government website:
https://www.vic.gov.au/working-with-children-check
Please note from 19 October 2026 people applying for or renewing a WWCC will need to complete the online course to be eligible to receive a WWCC
Once your check has been approved, please forward your details or confirmation to:
This will allow our administration team to complete the online verification process and update your details in the Club’s membership and compliance records.
Our Commitment to Child Safety
Portsea Surf Life Saving Club is committed to maintaining a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all children and young people.
With hundreds of young members participating in our Nippers, education and lifesaving programs each season, ensuring that our members, volunteers and employees meet the appropriate child safety requirements is an important responsibility shared across the Club.
We appreciate your cooperation in completing these requirements ahead of the busy summer season.
Thank you for your ongoing support and contribution to Portsea Surf Life Saving Club.
