Portsea Guards Go Global
July 2, 2026Pool Champs in Perth
The Royal Life Saving Society’s Pool Life Saving Championships were recently held in Perth and Portsea had two of our youth members competing under the Victorian banner. Rose Buordolone and Camilla Klein were both selected into Life Saving Victoria’s U14 and Development Team.
Camilla has a couple of years of pool lifesaving experience under her belt, competing for Mentone in the winter pool lifesaving competitions. Rose, competing for Portsea, tried her hand at the pool lifesaving competitions for the first time this winter and found herself a natural, with multiple podium finishes both at the state and national championships.
Pool lifesaving is ‘swim racing with a difference’ – the difference being that the events are simulating rescues, retrieving underwater mannikins and towing them, with fins and tubes, to the finish line. Other races involve swimming under obstacles, line throw rescue races and simulated multi-rescue scenarios. There’s lots to choose from should more of our members want to get involved next winter.
