Youth/Senior Vic Champs at Lorne
March 11, 2026Junior State Champs at Warrnambool
Portsea sent its strongest team of juniors in many years to the Lifesaving State Championships at Warrnambool over the long weekend.
The State Champs marked the end of an incredible season for the Juniors with a big increase in numbers participating in training and competing in Carnivals. Reflecting this Portsea had a great result coming 15th overall.
Securing points for the club in individual events were Freddie Forsyth (3rd in the Surf Race and 6th in Flags) and Bianca Ferguson (6th in the Wade). Poppy Rowland, Bianca Ferguson and Rose Preston also secured points as part of composite teams with Tommy “the Composite King” Klein winning the beach relay and coming 2nd in the surf race as part of a composite. Finally, a big congratulations to Charlie Schall’s Under 10 “Invincibles” with Augie Schall-Riaucour, Will Forsyth, Charlie Deague, Oliver O’Brien and Finn Reid coming 3rd in the Surf Teams, 5th in the Wade Relay and 6th in the Aqua Cam – an amazing performance.
States was the last ever junior carnival for Sasha Robertson, Boston Brandi and Bobby Preston who have been competing together since U8s! But with some really strong U9s and U10s coming through there is lots to look forward to for the future.
Big thanks from all in the Competition Team to Katie Kerr, David Stogdale and Oscar Menzies for coming down to coach and helping out with IRB and other duties.
It’s been fantastic over the summer to see the Comp Team kids developing their skills, thriving in their teams and building friendships.
We are already looking forward to an even bigger season next year and any parents who would like their kid to give it a go please call John Preston on 0416 209 351.
