United Energy Portsea Nippers 2021-22 Program – Update
September 9, 2021New All Stars Golf Day date to be Friday 13th January 2023
January 15, 2022Thank-you to everyone for their understanding and kind messages of support upon the conclusion of the 2021/22 United Energy Portsea SLSC Nippers Program. Whilst this summer’s program did not finish as many of us had expected or hoped, we were extremely grateful to be able to complete the majority of the program as planned. As a club, we run the program for a variety of reasons – first and foremost to educate our younger members on the importance of water safety and water awareness – as we know through experience that programs like ours make a difference. We also run the program as an entry point to a potentially lifelong association with surf lifesaving and serving/protecting the community – the fundamental reason why we exist as a club. Finally, we run the program as it serves to connect our membership to what we do – and what we are about – in a fun and engaging way. On these measures, this year was another successful year!
Our planning for the program starts in June each year – and what you see on the beach is the culmination of many hours of hard work and dedication by a number of talented club members – led by the Nippers Committee, and supported by our amazing group of Age Managers, First Aid, Water Safety, COVID Officers and Set Up/Pack Down Crew amongst others. Quite simply, the program would not be possible without the dedication and commitment of these people – nearly a hundred people in total volunteering their time – amazing! It would also not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors – so please ensure that you support those who support us. We were also extremely thankful for Parks Victoria for allowing us access to the beautiful Point Nepean National Park and for the efforts of the LSV Westpac Helicopter Service (and our very own Chris Perrott) who kindly paid us a visit early in the program to share with us what they do and to answer the many great questions received from the Under 7 – 9 and Starfish participants – a truly memorable day.
This year saw the introduction of the inaugural Starfish Program – these young members have brought so much to our program – and the way they have been embraced by all is what makes our club so great. We are glad and fortunate that the Starfish participants chose to spend their summer with us.
Finally, thank-you to all of the participants for getting involved this year. There was no hesitation in taking on the challenge of Nipper activities – whether they be water or land based and your smiles, laughter and sheer enjoyment of the program is what makes it all worthwhile. We look forward to seeing you all back later this year!
