Cadet Camp

Cadet Camp 2019 will be following the same refreshed format: lots of boards, skills and fitness!

As most of our candidates will have completed their Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) as part of the U/14 Nipper program, there will be the opportunity to requalify that award and refresh those skills. This also means that candidates will be helping with the Nipper program, hence we have arrange Cadet Camp around Nippers.

 

For the candidates that haven’t completed U/14 Nippers SRC, there are 2 extra sessions so you can earn this award as part of the Cadet Camp (see details below).

 

With a stronger focus on water skills, especially boards, we will be inviting down a number of specialist skills coaches the provide extra training throughout the camp.

 

What will I do on Cadet Camp?

Cadets will participate in a combination of:

  • Requalifying Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC)

  • Board skills

  • Fitness work

  • Rescue skills

  • Scenario work

  • Competition skills

Please note cadets is not a live in camp. Candidates we’ll need to be picked up and dropped off at Quarantine Station, Point Nepean each day.

The Surf Rescue Certificate they will attain gives them a qualification that allows them to compete in the Nipper Competition State Titles and well as attend, at their own will, any of our volunteer patrols.

Nipper helping

We would love if the cadets could help out with the Nipper program as much as possible over the next few weeks! The Nipper sessions run from 9am-12pm at Portsea back beach on the following dates: TBC

 

What to bring in a day bag

• Hat (Wide Brim)

• Sunglasses

• Sunscreen

• Water bottle (Particularly on the Quarantine Days)

• Bathers

• Wetsuit

• Towel

• Sun protective clothing i.e. T-shirt not singlet

• Runners & sandals

• LUNCH! It will not be provided as part of camp (there may be BBQs on as part of the Nipper program, so please listen out for those announcements and plan accordingly)

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION PLEASE READ

The Portsea Cadet Camp is an extremely popular program. Contrary to belief, this is not a completely ‘first come, first serve’ process. Preference has to be given to those who have previously participated in the Portsea Nipper programs in order to achieve our goal of providing an end-to-end junior development program. Previous Portsea Nipper graduates will have a 1 week priority period to apply before Non-Portsea Nippers.

 

Please note that the registration dates and process differs depending on whether you completed the U/14 Nipper program in 2017/18 or not. Please read the below instructions carefully for the registration process that is applicable to you.

PREVIOUS 2017/18 PORTSEA SLSC NIPPER GRADUATES

Registration dates:

  • Open – 10AM Monday 3rd September 2018
  • Close – 5pm Monday 10th September 2018

 

All Nipper graduates that register within this time frame will be guaranteed a spot on camp, so please do not rush to fill out the lengthy application form; all of the details are important to us.

If you fail to register during this 10 hour window, you will have to register with the Non-Portsea Nippers and your place on Cadet Camp will not be guaranteed.

Please have the following information ready to fill out the application form:

  • Medicare number

  • Date of last tetanus injection

  • Information on any medications/allergies

  • Family doctor contact details

  • Credit card for payment

 

NON-PORTSEA NIPPERS

Registration dates:

  • Open – 9.30AM Wednesday 12th September 2018
  • Close – When full

 

The application form for Non-Portsea Nippers is simply a registration of contact details. Your registration will be recorded as soon as you press the submit button.

After we have confirmed the registrations, successful candidates will be notified and you will then be sent the full registration form to collect extra details and payment.

For your information, if you lodge your application before this time, (ie. During the previous Nipper graduates priority period) your application will be moved to the bottom of the waiting list.
