Rebuild Update – January 2019

As anyone who has recently visited the Portsea Back Beach will attest, our new Clubhouse is starting to take shape. Bucking industry norms, our builder IB Projects was back on site from 2 January, with a number of key trades focused on getting the project finished.

From the outside, you will notice that the timber façade, most windows and some of the doors are now in place. The last of the structural concrete was poured last week, being the external staircase on the southern side of the building. Our famous deck was poured before Christmas, and with most of the scaffolding removed from it, it is clearly apparent that it will remain a key feature in this new building, as much as it was the last.

The control room has also been unveiled and is clearly going to be a great place to watch the beach from. It must be five times the size of the old radio room – three metres deep and with a six metre frontage. A key element of this room will be the ability to more easily interact with the public, with a walk up window on the rear wall.

It is on the inside where much of the unseen work has happened. Electrical rough in is complete in many parts of the Clubhouse. The bathrooms are now tiled and will shortly be ready for fit out of cabinetry and external plumbing. The multi purpose/youth room downstairs has been plastered. The lift has been installed, and heating and cooling plumbing has been largely completed. The bunk rooms have windows, plaster and are taking shape well, with an amazing view.

With more work complete, the size of the main Clubrooms is also much easier to comprehend. Windows and doors are currently going in, and it promises to provide a great space for our 2700 members to enjoy.

Over the coming weeks we expect the rate of work to intensify. As well as in the Clubhouse, civil works will commence in the car park, where we are required to create a number of new car parking lots at the top of the middle car park, to replace those lots lost to the CFA water tanks.

On current expectations, our builder IB Projects advises us that the Clubhouse will be ready for hand over at the end of March. As such, we have started preparing for an official opening currently anticipated for Easter. More details to follow…

In the meantime, just a reminder to all Club members that they are not to enter the site under any circumstances unless accompanied by a representative of IB Projects or our Project Manager Nash. We know you are excited to check it out, but please wait until it is complete. Any interference to the site risks impacting the schedule of works, and having waited so long, we do not want to jeopardise this position.
